The Condé Museum’s painting collection makes it the number one museum of ancient paintings (prior to 1850) in France after the Louvre Museum. Comprised of more than a dozen rooms, you’ll discover throughout the tour over 800 masterpieces of French, Italian, Flemish, English painting and more. Many art pieces complete this collection.

The apartments of the Château of Chantilly combine two sets of rooms. On the first floor, the ceremonial Grand Apartments, decorated with white and gold rocaille woodworks and valuable eighteenth century furniture. On the ground floor, the Small Apartments or private apartment of the Duke and Duchess of Aumale, decorated and furnished according to the tastes of the nineteenth century.

An avid collector, the Duke d’Aumale decides to rebuild and renovate the chateau in the nineteenth century, in order to present his collections. Thus, he creates the Condé Museum which spreads out and over several rooms or galleries: Painting gallery, Psyche gallery, Santuario, Gemstone cabinet, Tribune, etc. Over 800 master paintings, art pieces, tapestries, precious dishes and ceremonial decors are included in the Museum’s exceptional collection.
